leaching of gold using thiourea

  • Thiourea Gold Leaching Metallurgist amp; Mineral Processing

Thiourea Gold Leaching. The use of thiourea, (CS(NH2)2 as a complexing/extracting agent for gold and other precious metals has shown promise for implementation in the mining/metals industry. Laboratory testing of this reagent has indicated that a thiourea process for gold extraction has several advantages over conventional processing techniques.

Nov 09, 20150183;32;The only smell present during the leach time is ammonia. PH has every thing to do with using thiosulfate. If you let your leach run too long, and let the PH drop too much during run time ,it will then pull in some iron. Run time,PH,and temperature are the keys to using thiosulfate. P.S. All of my observations are with sodium thiosulfate.

Abstract. Conclusions Using thiourea, the system producing maximum profit requires an acid wash. An initial concentration of 2 g/1 thiourea is sufficient to begin with, and an addition of 10 g/1 ensures gold extraction of 89%. A leaching time of 72 h is recommended, and thiourea consumption is 3.9 kg/t.

Nov 01, 19840183;32;Most of the interest in thiourea leaching has involved treating high grade concentrates that have sufficient value to justify the use of thiourea as a reagent. An important development in thiourea technology is the addition of SO//2 to the leaching solution.

Gold (I) forms strong cationic complex with thiourea in acidic solution 2, 5 (1) for significant leaching rate at this potential (above 0.4 V) an oxidant at high concentration (ferric ions or hydrogen peroxide) is required. The reduction of O 2 is slow at these potentials and so precludes the use of oxidation by air.
